Christ Unveiled Ministries: Sound System Inspection & Optimization

,

Christ Unveiled Ministries in Garland, Texas, recently upgraded its sanctuary mixing system to an Allen & Heath Avantis platform. A new console is only one part of a church sound system, though — and after the upgrade, the congregation began noticing problems that the new equipment alone couldn’t explain: reduced clarity, a muddy low end, microphone feedback, and uneven sound coverage throughout the room. Living Sound was brought in to inspect the system, identify what was actually causing the problems, and bring the sound back into balance.

Identifying the Challenges

A digital console upgrade changes what’s possible in a room, but it doesn’t automatically correct problems that live elsewhere in the signal chain — gain structure, EQ, crossover settings, time alignment, and the room’s own acoustic behavior all still have to be dialed in. At Christ Unveiled, the symptoms pointed in several directions at once: congregants in different parts of the sanctuary were hearing noticeably different things, vocal microphones were prone to feedback, and the low end felt heavy and undefined rather than tight and controlled.

Rather than treating these as isolated complaints, Living Sound’s team approached the system as a whole — looking for the underlying technical causes rather than adjusting individual symptoms one at a time.

Professional System Inspection & Diagnosis

Using hands-on measurement and signal analysis, Living Sound evaluated the main speakers and subwoofers individually, rather than assuming they were working together correctly by default. This revealed exactly the kind of problem a console upgrade can’t fix on its own: the system’s EQ, crossover points, and signal-processing settings were not properly configured for the room, and the main speakers and subwoofers were not time-aligned with each other — a common and often-overlooked cause of a muddy, undefined low end and inconsistent coverage from seat to seat.

This diagnostic step is what separates a real fix from guesswork. Simply raising levels or re-EQing by ear can mask a problem temporarily, but without identifying that the real issue was alignment and signal processing, the feedback and clarity problems would likely have returned.

Sound System Tuning & Optimization

With the root causes identified, Living Sound corrected the main speaker and subwoofer time alignment, reviewed and corrected the crossover and EQ settings to match the room, and optimized the overall frequency response. Properly aligning the main speakers and subwoofers improved their integration through the crossover region, producing a tighter, more cohesive low end in place of the muddy, undefined bass the church had been hearing.

Each vocal and instrument microphone was individually checked and adjusted, which — combined with the corrected gain structure — significantly reduced the system’s tendency to feed back. Together, these corrections brought noticeably better clarity, low-frequency balance, and overall sound system coherence to the room.

Result

Following the inspection and tuning work, Christ Unveiled Ministries reported a clear improvement in sound quality, with noticeably better clarity, a tighter and more controlled low end, and far more stable microphone performance throughout the worship space.

Looking Ahead

Living Sound’s inspection also identified a second category of issues that EQ and tuning alone can’t fully resolve: the room’s acoustic behavior. Untreated reflective surfaces and the current speaker aiming are contributing to some of the inconsistency in coverage noted above. Based on these findings, Living Sound has proposed a future phase of work for Christ Unveiled Ministries, including acoustic treatment panel installation, adjustment of the main speaker tilt angle, a full system recalibration once those physical changes are in place, additional worship team sound checks, and livestream audio optimization. This next phase is planned but has not yet been completed; the church intends to move forward with it as a continuation of the improvements already made.

Better Worship Sound Starts with Professional Diagnosis

A new mixing console is a meaningful upgrade, but it’s not the whole story. Getting a worship space to sound clear and balanced takes measurement, diagnosis, and hands-on tuning tailored to the room itself. Through professional system inspection, measurement-based correction, and hands-on consulting, Living Sound helps churches get the full value out of their equipment and build a sound system the whole congregation can hear clearly.
